Dear Parents and Caregivers
I know many of us certainly enjoyed the shorter weeks to start the term and I know from the feedback from the students, they sure did as well! However, in saying this, I appreciated the full week last week, it allowed me to catch-up on things and really get into the swing of Term 2.
Continued Learning for Educators – A Commitment to Excellence
At our school, we believe that learning never stops—not just for our students, but for our educators as well. Professional learning is essential to ensuring our staff stay current, inspired, and equipped to provide the highest quality education.
Recently, our school leaders participated in a powerful professional learning day with Leading Teams, an organisation renowned for building strong, collaborative cultures in schools and workplaces. The session focused on developing leadership capability, strengthening team dynamics, and fostering open and honest communication across all levels of our school community.
This kind of professional growth helps ensure our leadership team can better support staff, enhance student outcomes, and maintain a positive school environment for everyone.
I am proud of our team’s ongoing commitment to learning and growth; and we're excited to keep working together to make our school the best it can be.
Enhancing Communication: New Guidelines for Parent-Teacher Interactions
You may have seen some recent media regarding the new governments intent to Reduce Red Tape in schools. Last Friday, our local member and Minister for Education and the Arts, The Honourable John-Paul Langbroek was at our great school to release one of three new strategies.
The Queensland Department of Education is introducing new communication guidelines as part of its red tape reduction strategy. These guidelines aim to streamline interactions between parents and teachers, ensuring effective communication within designated school hours.
Recognising the increasing demands on teachers' time, the initiative seeks to protect educators' right to disconnect outside of work hours. Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek announced that a one-page statewide guideline will be released to address this issue.
Parents are encouraged to schedule meetings during school hours and utilise established communication channels for any concerns or discussions. This approach fosters a respectful and productive partnership between families and educators, ultimately benefiting our students' learning experiences. In my experience, the Surfers Paradise community have always been very respectful and understanding to our staff when communicating, however I do know that some of my colleagues around the state have not been so lucky.
These guidelines are yet to be released, but once they do I’ll be sure to share them with our community.

Thank You to Our Wonderful P&C – Mother’s Day Stall
A huge thank you to our amazing P&C for running the Mother’s Day Stall last week! Your hard work, planning, and care gave our students the chance to pick out thoughtful gifts and experience the joy of giving. The smiles on their faces said it all!
We’d also like to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mums, grandmothers, and mother figures in our school community. We hope your weekend was filled with love, appreciation, and maybe even a little pampering — you deserve it!

National Walk Safely to School Day was today, Friday 16 May 2025
Walk Safely to School Day encourages positive environmental action, better use of public transport with reduced car-dependency and encourages parents and carers to walk more, reducing dangerous traffic congestion around schools.
Being active every day, including walking to school, can help make a difference for many Australians. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or carer - everyone has a role to play in helping children to lead active healthy lives.
Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids, so start planning where possible your walking journey to school.

Students progressing to the South Coast Cross Country Trials, Tuesday 3 June 2025, will be the students who finished in the top 14.
